How does homeopathy work?
In homeopathy, we do not work on the chemical level (as the regular medicine you get at the pharmacy does) but instead, we work on an energy level. An illness is treated with the same natural substance that would create the symptoms of the very illness. But this natural substance is given in a very high dilution.
Allopathic medicine calls it implausible that such a very highly diluted substance could have any effect. In fact, the dilution could be so high that there might be no more molecules left. A leading theory how such ‘ultramolecular’ dilutions could work is that water has the capability to store information about a substance it has been in contact with before.
What are the C numbers on homeopathic medicines?
The C scale is a measurement of the diluting of a substance. Each single C indicates a dilution of 1:100. For example, a 2C shows that the original substance has been diluted by a factor of 100, and then the resulting solution has again been diluted by a factor of 100. This works out to one part of the original substance in 10,000 parts of the solution. A 6C dilution repeats this process six times, ending up with the original material diluted by a factor of 100−6=10−12 (or one in 1,000,000,000,000) Higher dilutions follow the same pattern. A solution with a higher C value has a higher potency and is stronger.
